Executive plan Dental insurance
The Executive Plan within Discovery's dental insurance in South Africa offers basic dental treatment done in the dentist's or dental specialist's rooms at 100% of the Discovery Health Rate from the policyholder’s available day-to-day benefits.
This plan will cover:
- The balance of the hospital account from the individual's hospital benefit is up to 100% of the Discovery Health Rate.
- Related accounts from the individual’s Hospital Benefit up to 100% of the DHR.
- Specialists up to 300% of the DHR.

With Discovery's Dental Insurance in South Africa, there are 7 different plans to select from.
These include the Executive Plan, Comprehensive Series, Priority Series, Saver Series, Core series, and KeyCare Series. All of which provide the best private dental insurance in South Africa.
Comprehensive series Dental insurance
The Comprehensive Series within Discovery's dental insurance offers equal basic dental treatment as per the Executive Plan. This further means that all dental appliances and their placement, as well as orthodontic treatment, including related accounts for orthognathic surgery, are covered 100%.
This plan will cover:
- The balance of the hospital account from one’s Hospital benefits, up to 100% of the Discovery Health Rate.
- Related accounts from the individual’s Hospital Benefit up to 100% of the DHR.
- Anaesthetists up to 200% of the DHR on Classic plans and up to 100% of the DHR on Essential plans.

The Priority Series Dental Insurance offers equal cover to that of the Comprehensive Series, but differs in terms of the basic dental treatment, by offering coverage for an amount of R19 150 a year per person for dental appliances and orthodontic claims.
Saver series Dental insurance
In terms of basic dental treatment, Discovery will cover all dental appliances and their placement as well as orthodontic treatment (including related accounts for orthognathic surgery) at 100% of the Discovery Health Rate from one’s available day-to-day benefits for those that don't have available day-to-day benefits, they will need to pay the dentist and dental specialist's account. The in-hospital cover is equal to that of the Comprehensive Series, as well as the Priority Series.
Smart series Dental insurance
Policyholders of the Smart Series plan will have cover for one defined dental check-up at any dentist, dental therapist or oral hygienist with a fixed upfront payment for the check-up. Individuals on this plan will be responsible to pay the cost of all dental appliances and their placements as well as orthodontic treatment (including the related accounts for orthognathic surgery).
Along with this, one must pay an upfront amount of R110 on the Classic plan and R165 on the Essential plan for a dental check-up and the balance will be covered up to 100% of the Discovery Health Rate. The in-hospital cover is equal to that of all other policies except that of the Executive Plan but differs as this plan covers anaesthetists up to 200% of the DHR on the Classic plan.
Core series Dental insurance
Members of the Core Series plan will not receive cover for day-to-day medical costs and will be responsible for covering dental treatment costs, along with the cost of all dental appliances and their placements as well as orthodontic treatment (including the related accounts for orthognathic surgery).
Core Series In-hospital cover is identical to that of the Saver Series plan.
KeyCare series Dental insurance
Members of the KeyCare Series will be covered for consultations, fillings, and tooth removals at a dentist within Discovery’s dentist network. One must note that certain rules and limits may apply.
As per the Core Series plan, members of the KeyCare Series will be responsible for paying the cost of all dental appliances and their placements as well as orthodontic treatment (including the related accounts for orthognathic surgery). In-hospital dental treatment is not covered within the KeyCare plan.
Dental cover claims
Dental insurance claims can be submitted by using one of the following options:
- Scan and upload claims.
- Scan and email claims to claims@discovery.co.za.
- Submit claims via the Discovery App by downloading the Discovery app from Google Play Store or App Store. Log in and then use the “scan to submit a claim” option. If the claim has a QR code, simply scan the QR code or take a photo of the claim form within the Discovery app
- For those that prefer a traditional option, one can also submit a claim by post, by sending it to Discovery Claims, PO Box 784262, Sandton, 2146.
