Genesis Medical Aid in South Africa offers a variety of medical aid plans for individuals that are looking for a hospital plan or a comprehensive medical aid plan.

All Genesis medical aid plans provide cover for hospitalization and related accounts at any private hospital in South Africa, as well as additional medical aid benefits.

Medical aid benefits

Genesis offers medical aid plans in the form of Private Choice or Private Hospital cover, as well as a comprehensive medical aid plan. All plans include the following benefits:

1. Hospitalization and related accounts, which means that all matters relating to theatre costs, x-rays, pathology, physiotherapy, blood transfusion, medicines, and more, will be covered at 100% of the Scheme Tariff for a general ward, intensive and high care wards of a private or provincial hospital, as well as a day clinic or the recovery room charges of an unattached operating theatre.
2. Basic dentistry, which offers cover for basic, as well as some enhanced dentistry and includes:

• Three dental oral examinations.
• Six fillings.
• Unlimited extractions.
• Six plain x-rays for conservative dentistry.
• Two root canal treatments.
• Crowns, dentures, or bridges are limited to R5 000.
• Surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth.
• One scale and polish.
• One dental implant is limited to R10 000 per three-year financial year cycle of membership.

1. Flexibility and freedom of choice, as all Genesis medical aid members are entitled to choose a hospital, doctor, or medical specialist of their choice.
2. Emergency medical evacuation, entitles medical aid members to access the ER24 Emergency Contact Centre for any medical emergencies. These medical emergencies can be described as emergency pre-hospital treatment, evacuation, and transport (including inter-hospital transfers) within South Africa, as well as a 24/7 medical helpline service for medical-related enquiries.

Genesis offers the option of two hospital plans known as Private Choice and Private.

These hospital plans are designed to cover individuals in hospital for planned and emergency hospital admissions and take care of any hospital and related accounts.

Important to note is that both hospital plans with Genesis include substantial benefits for basic dentistry.

Those who choose to sign up with the Private Choice hospital plan in 2021 will pay a medical aid price of: 

• R1340 for one adult.
• R2680 for two adults.
• R3120 for two adults and one child.
• R3560 for two adults and two children.
• R4000 for two adults and three children.

From 2022, these prices will change to:

• R1390 for one adult.
• R2780 for two adults.
• R3235 for two adults and one child.
• R3690 for two adults and two children.
• R4145 for two adults and three children. 

Those who choose to sign up with the Private hospital plan in 2021 will pay a medical aid price of:

• R1850 for one adult.
• R3700 for two adults.
• R4230 for two adults and one child.
• R4760 for two adults and two children.
• R5290 for two adults and three children.

From 2022, these prices will change to:

• R1925 for one adult.
• R3850 for two adults.
• R4400 for two adults and one child.
• R4950 for two adults and two children.
• R5500 for two adults and three children.
